Rohini is an Indian actress, lyricist, screenwriter, voice actor and director.[2] She has mainly acted in south Indian, notably Malayalam and Tamil films. Having started her acting career at five, she has about 130 south Indian films to her credit.[3] She received National Award of Special mention and Andhra Pradesh State Award for Best Female Actor in the year 1996 for the film Sthree.[4]

A native of Anakapalli, Rohini spent all her childhood in Chennai.[5] She started her career in 1976 as a child artiste. She was first seen as a wide-eyed 5 year old in Yashoda Krishna, a Telugu film.
She is also a popular dubbing artist in the Tamil industry. She has voiced six characters in five of Mani Ratnam's films.[6] She lent her voice to actresses like Jyothika (Vettaiyadu Villaiyadu), Aishwarya Rai (Iruvar and Raavanan),[5] Manisha Koirala (Bombay)[2] and Amala (Shiva).[6]
She wrote lyrics for the Tamil film Pachaikili Muthucharam, before ending another hiatus by writing all songs in the album, Maalai Pozhudhin Mayakathilaey.[7] Her acting skills were recognized and she was given the Kalaimamani award recently.
She writes episodes for Tamil TV serials.[5] She started writing scripts for TV series way back in 1996, and has adapted the Sahithya Academy Award winning novel Verukku Neer for a tele film in 2005.[4] She hosted the live TV talk show Kelvigal Aayiram for Vijay TV, which she said "dealt with issues close to my heart".[6] She moderated the Tamil programme Azhagiya Tamizh Magal on Kalaignar TV [8] and has worked as the anchor of Raj TV’s show, Rohini’s Box Office in which she reviewed the latest releases.[9]
Being an activist for AIDS awareness, Rohini has also directed short films for M.G.R. Medical University and Tamil Nadu Aids Control Society.[4] In 2008, Rohini had directed a 50-minute documentary Silent Hues about film industry’s child artists, she being one herself.[10] In 2013, she has directed a feature film Appavin Meesai which is yet to be released.[11]

She is also the sister of famous Telugu TV artiste, Balaji.[12] She was married to actor Raghuvaran in 1996.[2] They got divorced in 2004.[13] She has a son Rishi Varan.[5]

Indraja(Telugu: ఇంద్రజ) was wise enough to reject nearly seven films in Telugu, only to accept later significant roles. Right now the actress who can combine glamour and grit in her performance is banking on three movies – Dasari’s ‘Pichodi Chethilo Rayi’, (which has just been released), ‘Surya Putrika’ and the folklore ‘Bhooloka Veeruku-Jagadeka Sundari’.
Meanwhile Indraja’s foray into Malayalam movies has been fruitful as she starred opposite big names Mohan Lal, Mammootty and Suresh Gopi. She has starred in ‘Ustad’ with Mohan Lal, ‘Godman’ and ‘FIR’ with Suresh Gopi. The last two films were dubbed and released in Telugu, recently. Indraja’s foray into Kannada films too was quite successful. Her starrer, ‘Gadabide Krishna’ opposite Sivaraj Kumar is a big hit. Currently she is starring in a performance – oriented role opposite Sashi Kumar in a Kannada movie. However Indraja has not been able to make much headway in Tamil movies, as both her starrers – ‘Thadayam’ and ‘Rajavin Parvaile’ failed to make an impact at the box office. Though there were a couple of offers, she is waiting for the right back break to prove her mettle in Tamil films too, as she has done in Telugu.
